Richie Hayward was born on 6 February 1946 in Iowa. He got his first drum set around the age of 10. His first gig was at the age of 13 at a local hall.

In the mid-60s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Lowell George. They form a band, but it breaks up and they move on. In 1969, Lowell George approached him about forming another band. They put together Little Feat. It disbanded in 1979 following the death of Lowell George in June. Little Feat reformed in 1988 with Richie once again on Drums. Since the early 1990s, Shaun Murphy, who was Eric Clapton’s backup vocalist in 1985, is now Little Feat’s lead singer.

Throughout his long career, Richie has worked with luminaries like Joan Armatrading, Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Robert Palmer, Arlo Guthrie, Peter Frampton, Nils Lofgren, Taj Mahal, The Doobie Brothers, Stephen Stills, Bob Seger, Van Dyke Parks, Ry Cooder, Arlo Guthrie, Carly Simon, Robert Plant, Warren Zevon, and Buddy Guy.

Eric Clapton sat in with Little Feat on several occasions and invited Richie to play his 1993 Royal Albert Hall dates. Richie can be heard on Eric’s CD From The Cradle on “How Long Blues”. He also played on some of the early blues tour dates in 1994.
