Clapton Concert News: Portland 28 February 2011

News has been slow coming in from the American Northwest, but never fear … Eric Clapton & His Band turned in another top-flight show in Portland on 28 February. The echoing refrain has been that although the set list is fairly static, fans should not be put off the tour. There’s plenty going on in the arrangements to satisfy the most hardened fan and Eric’s playing just gets better and better. One fan who checked in about the Portland gig, told Where’s Eric!, "I really can’t add much to what has been said about the Seattle and Vancouver shows, except WOW! This was the first time that I had ever been able to hear Eric play live, and I was just in awe. Like a lot of people, I play a little bit of guitar, and I can see what he’s doing and hear what he does and understand the music theory, but no, I cannot do it, (although I’m going to try) and think that background amplifies my appreciation and enjoyment. I was just in awe. Sometimes I would almost laugh with delight like a little kid (OK, I’ll confess, I’m only a few years younger than Eric and grew up hooked on his music.) I can also appreciate hearing things that he played a little bit differently; some songs that I’ve heard many times, came across with a slightly different and very sweet flavor. A couple of times the soloing on the organ got a little too much for my poor old ears, but again, I can really enjoy the music and talent." Night after night on this tour, the standout has been "Old Love". "Sheriff", "Little Queen Of Spades," and "Badge" have also been getting raves.

Next on EC’s itinerary is a gig tonight (2 March) at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, followed by stops in Sacramento (3 March), Las Vegas (5 March), San Diego (6 March) and Universal City (8 and 9 March). California and Nevada fans … we’re counting on you! Send set lists, reviews and photos to info@whereseric.com.
