Clapton Thrills Hamburg Audience

– Were you there? Tell us what it was like at info@whereseric.com
– Eric got to see England win on a backstage telly right after the gig ended
– ‘Got To Get Better In A Little While’ was the standout song

Eric Clapton & His Band visited the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg on 3 July as part of a 3-date summer tour. The Hamburger Abendblatt proclaimed EC created a “Goosebump Moment”. Jan Haarmeyers wrote in his review that “[Clapton] can still do it. Sometimes casual, sometimes fast, but above all always precise, his fingers press the six strings of the black Fender Stratocaster, which he exchanges after half an hour for a quiet set against his acoustic guitar.” Likewise, Christoph Forsthoff of the Hamburger Morgenpost wrote those in attendance “lived music history”. “[T]here are those blues passages again and again when the best white blues guitarist of all time with his phenomenal technique and his supernatural play completely devoted to the music – all the more so when the genius reaches for the acoustic guitar and at ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out’ lets his fingers dance over the strings.”

Where’s Eric! received a few short notes after the show praising his subtle fretboard work during the acoustic section and his aggressive attack during the electric numbers. ‘Got To Get Better In A Little While’ was the night’s standout number. Detailed fan reviews are pending and will be posted in the Tour Archive as they arrive.

Like many of his followers, Eric is an avid football fan and has been closely following World Cup matches. He was on stage for the majority of the England vs. Columbia matchup. WIth the game tied 1-all after extra time, the band finished the encore – ‘High TIme We Went’ – just as the penalty shoot-out started. Eric went straight to the telly in the venue’s artist lounge to witness England banish their penalty demons and win the shoot-out. Luckily for Eric, band, crew and his football-loving fans, the Three Lions’ quarterfinal match against Sweden takes place Saturday afternoon, the day before EC’s concert in London’s Hyde Park.

After Sunday’s British Summertime Concert, Eric has two final dates on his 2018 schedule. The concerts take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden in October and are EC’s only 2018 U.S. concerts. Limited tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
