Eric Clapton At Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center: 28 February 2010
Eric, his band and crew continued their trek through the southern U.S. with a gig in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday night. Those in attendance at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center heard classic blues like "Going Down Slow," "Key To The Highway," and "Little Queen of Spades" along with songs like "Old Love", "I Shot The Sheriff," and "Badge". The 16 song set list was identical to the previous evening's Nashville concert.
One fan in attendance told Where's Eric!, "Tonight's performance was superb. Eric is in absolute top form. At a stage of his career where he could easily just show up and go through the motions, he is showing a deep intensity and love for his craft. Throughout the show, he appeared to be so locked in and focused it was as if the crowd wasn't even there. Clapton wasn't the only legend on the stage....Willie Weeks, Steve Gadd, Chris Stainton, Walt Richmond ... a perfect band."
For first time in several years, "Layla," remains firmly "unplugged" in the mid-show sit-down set as it's the only song in Eric's catalog that really requires him to have a second guitarist on stage for the original version. One fan pointed out, "My wife was bummed that Eric did the unplugged Layla. I reminded her that in the early 2000s when we last saw Eric that one of his keyboard players picked up a guitar for it so it had its full intertwined guitar sound."
As with earlier dates on the tour, Roger Daltrey opened.
Next on Eric's itinerary is a gig on 2 March at BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For a complete list of upcoming concerts, visit the Tour Page.
