Eric Clapton Completes First Leg Of 2011 Tour

Eric Clapton and His Band closed out the first leg of the guitarist’s 2011 World Tour with a second performance at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles on 9 March, the same day in which the guitarist’s third benefit auction for Crossroads Centre took place across the continent in New York City. The set list featured songs from his most recent album, Clapton, his back catalog as well as blues standards. Amongst the concert’s strongest numbers were "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Old Love" and the perennial fan-favorite, "I Shot The Sheriff." "Before You Accuse Me" was back in the set, having been replaced by "Tell The Truth" the previous night. One of the fans in attendance told Where’s Eric!, "Eric lit up the stage with his fierce guitar playing and singing in fine form. He was in good spirits due to the fact that the auction held earlier in the day had gone well and so for the last night of the tour he came and played his heart out … the band played superbly with the trio of solos between Eric, Tim Carmon and Chris Stainton."

On the road this year with Eric are musicians Chris Stainton (keyboards), Tim Carmon (keyboards), Willie Weeks (bass), Steve Gadd (drums), Michelle John (backing vocals) and Sharon White (backing vocals). Los Lobos opened on all North American dates.

As the crowd exited the venue, Eric’s road crew were hard at work breaking down the stage and stowing all the gear so it could be shipped back to the UK for when the tour resumes in early May. For those dates, Andy Fairweather Low And The Low Riders will open. But before then, Eric will be in New York City for three shows in early April with jazz icon Wynton Marsalis at the Rose Theater, the first of which serves as the annual fundraising gala for Jazz At Lincoln Center.
