Eric Clapton Helps Celebrate Bunbury Cricket Club’s 25th Birthday

On the evening of 7 May at London’s Grosvernor House Hotel, Eric Clapton helped past and present Bunbury Cricket Team members celebrate the cricket club’s 25th Anniversary. The black-tie gala raised funds to support the English School’s Cricket Association, Crossroads Centre Antigua and the AF Foundation. It began with a 7PM reception, followed by dinner and entertainment hosted by Rory Bremner. Special guests were Ringo Starr and the Ashes Winning England Cricket Team. Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings performed a set.  Eric Clapton also took the stage to perform 7 songs. They were Key To The Highway, Hoochie Coochie Man, Tell The Truth, Wonderful Tonight, Crossroads, Little Queen Of Spades and Cocaine. DJ Lora was also on hand to keep everyone dancing late!

Founded by Dr. David English CBE (and Team Captain) in 1986, the Bunburys have raised well over 12 million pounds for charities. Both Eric Clapton and Bill Wyman have been long-time supporters of the Bunbury Cricket Club both on the pitch and off. EC has loaned his musical talents many times performing at post-cricket concerts in the eighties, recording a song with the Bee Gees for the Bunbury’s charity album, and headlining the annual gala in 2008 and 2009 in addition to this year.
