Eric Clapton Performs At Prince’s Trust Rock Gala 2010

On 17 November, in the presence of The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, a veritable who’s who of the entertainment industry gathered at London’s Royal Albert Hall in aid of the Prince’s Trust. Founded in 1976 by HRH The Prince of Wales, the Trust is the UK’s leading youth charity dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people. It offers training, personal development, business start up support, mentoring and advice. Hosted by comedians Rob Brydon and Barry Humpries (as his alter ego, Dame Edna Everage). the complete roster of entertainers was Tom Chaplin, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Jamie Cullum, Paloma Faith, Jools Holland, Tom Jones, Mark King, Brian May, Mike & The Mechanics, Alison Moyet, Status Quo, Roger Taylor and Midge Ure. Midge Ure also served as the evening’s musical director.

Eric Clapton, backed by The Prince’s Trust All Stars house band and accompanied by his long-time band member Chris Stainton (keyboards), performed the following songs during his headlining set: Rockin’ Chair, JJ Cale’s Same Old Blues, Little Queen of Spades, and Crossroads. Phil Collins sat behind the kit and joined EC for Crossroads. Eric did not join in on the All-Star Finale of Queen’s We Will Rock You. EC has been a long-time supporter of the charity having appeared at the Prince’s Trust Rock Galas that happened throughout the 1980s and the massive Prince’s Trust Rock Concert in Hyde Park in 1996. Status Quo, Phil Collins, Brian May, Midge Ure and others have also participated in previous music events for the Trust.

The concert was filmed in 3D for later broadcast on Sky 3D on 19 December 2010.
