Eric Clapton Rocks Highclere

On his night off from his current Albert Hall series, Eric Clapton turned up on Saturday (20 May 2006) in the Hampshire countryside to appear alongside some old friends at the Highclere Rocks Picnic Concert. Despite the mud and cold, wet weather, thousands turned up to picnic and enjoy the music.

Gates to the grounds opened at 4pm, with the music beginning at 4:40pm. Following several local support acts, Bryan Ferry took the stage around 8pm for a 45 minute set. The Band du Lac took the stage shortly before 9pm.

Appearing as part of the Band du Lac, Clapton performed "Knock on Wood", "Reconsider Baby", "Stormy Monday" and "Wonderful Tonight". Roger Waters then joined the band for "Wish you Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb" with Eric on lead guitar.

Waters left the stage, but the band carried on with "Whiter Shade of Pale", "Cocaine" and "Get Up Stand Up". They encored with Bob Dylan’s "Rainy Day Women".

Clapton’s residency at the Albert Hall resumes on the 22nd.
