George Harrison Tribute Concert Announced

A tribute concert to honor the memory of George Harrison will take place on the one-year anniversary of Harrison’s death, 29 November 2002, at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The event is being planned by Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and long-time friend Eric Clapton. Clapton will server as music director.

Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton will headline the evening which will feature a mix of Harrison’s own music and his favourite songs.Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, who played with Harrison in the Traveling Wilburys; pianist and band leader Jools Holland; drummer Jim Keltner; guitarist / singer Joe Brown; sitar master Ravi Shankar; and Monty Python alumni Eric Idle and Michael Palin will also take part.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Material World Charitable Foundation, which has been funded by Harrison since its inception in 1973. The foundation supports the arts, music, education and people with special needs.

The concert will be filmed for a TV special to air in early 2003.
