Listen to Eric Clapton’s 1989 BBC Radio 4 Desert Island Discs Broadcast

BBC Radio 4 has made more of its Desert Island Discs audio archive available to the public. Eric Clapton was a guest on 10 September 1989 with presenter Sue Lawley. The BBC has recently made the 40 minute program available for online listening as well as via a downloadable podcast. A search feature of the Desert Island Discs website allows one to find out other show guests who picked EC’s music as part of their selection over the years.

Desert Island Discs is one of BBC Radio’s longest-running programmes, having launched in 1942. It’s still going strong. The premise of the programme is simple: guests are invited to choose eight discs, a book and a luxury to take with them as they’re castaway on a mythical desert island. They’re given the complete works of Shakespeare and the Bible. During the interview they explain their choices and discuss key moments in their lives, people and events that have influenced and inspired them and brought them to where they are today.
