Michelle John On The Voice UK Semi-Finals This Saturday

Michelle John, a backing vocalist for EC, takes part in the semi-final round of The Voice UK this Saturday night, 25 March. She’s up against 7 other acts fighting to make it through to the final. The show’s winner gets a contract with Polydor Records.

The coaches – Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Jennifer Hudson and Gavin Rossdale – are nearly powerless at this stage of the competition as the public decides who gets the coveted final four spots.

At the start of her journey on the show, Michelle said she’s looking to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight singing her songs as a solo artist. She brought down the house with her spin on “It’s A Man’s Man’s World” during her blind audition. All four judges were clearly impressed, but will.i.am was the one who pushed the button telling Michelle, “Your voice grabbed me. Your voice reached out and pushed the button. I didn’t push the button, you pushed it. Your voice hijacked me.” She has continued to wow both judges and viewers in all subsequent appearances on the show.

Earlier this week, veteran disc jockey Tony Blackburn tweeted, “@meeshjohn I’m already looking forward to playing your records and I really hope you win, Good luck” and “At last the voice has found a great singer @meeshjohn should have a record deal immediately. Great performer and terrific voice.”

Growing up in Peckham, Michelle’s passion for singing began in church, which she would attend with her mum. As a teen, she was a member of the prestigious London Community Gospel Choir. As professional vocalist, she has worked with Annie Lennox, Will Young, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, Lulu, Michael McDonald, Nick Carter, Mariah Carey, David Gilmour, Carole King and the late George Michael and Whitney Houston, just to name a few. From 2004, Michelle was an integral part of Eric Clapton’s touring and recording band. Due to her continued success on the show, she is not part of the band for EC’s Spring 2017 concerts

Michelle is also a vocal coach, working with Razorlight, Girl’s Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Mis-Teeq, Bryan McFadden, Westlife, and Rita Ora.

Two years ago, she released “Little Me,” her first EP of self-penned songs and released a Gospel single with Karl Nova entitled “Shining On.”
