This concert marked the 3rd show of the Eric's 2009 Winter Tour and the 1st of seven performances at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan.
Review by Masako A / Tokyo
The first show at Budokan was Fantastic! Eric's guitar playing was powerful and seemed he was in very good mood. At the end all the band lined and bowed 4 times (not the usual 3) with big smile! I think Abe's drum made the band good change. Wonderful Tonight started with his drum. This was something new. Doyle was cool as always.
Review by Shinichiro Yoshino
Eric has come back to his "other" home ... the Budo-kan ... in Tokyo.
He started with "Tell The Truth" with the light blue stratocaster in his hand the 1st night in Budo-kan. It was the same opening number as 2006 Japan tour. Lots of Tokyo fan worried, "is it same as last time?" and first two songs sound like warm up.
But it is different! He "turned on" with third song "Hoochie Coochie Man". He gave aggressive solo on it. Next three songs were also fantastic - up and down in "Sheriff " the solo was really impressive. But there are some noise from Doyle's effecter during "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad". It was so sorry. Even this accident, twin lead guitar ending part was beautiful. "Motherless Child" sounds brilliant, EC on 12 strings guitar, in Acoustic set.
He played Black Strat in open turning for slide guitar on "Motherless Children." After this one, Eric started "Spades" without guitar change. But soon Lee (his guitar technician) ran on stage with light blue axe and change it. Also solo in first half of Layla is emotional.
Slide show of "flapping rising sun" (Japanese national flag) showed back screen at Ending. After show Eric seems satisfied with big smile.
