Clapton & Winwood 2011Japan Tour: Two Nights In Osaka

In the shadow of Osaka Castle, Eric Clapton and his former Blind Faith bandmate, Steve Winwood performed back-to-back concerts at Osaka Jo-Hall on 21 and 22 November. Over the two nights, the sets included some of the duo’s best-loved songs from their days in Blind Faith ("Had To Cry Today," "Presence Of The Lord," "Can’t Find My Way Home") as well as songs from their careers before and after Blind Faith like "Gimme Some Lovin’" "Midland Maniac," "While You See A Chance", "After Midnight," "Crossroads." and "Cocaine." Clapton’s ever-popular "Wonderful Tonight" has been brilliantly reworked as an acoustic number in which Winwood takes the lead. This version of the song debuted in Yokohama on 19 November.

On the second night in Osaka, Clapton and Winwood ended the main body of the performance with "Voodoo Chile" before coming back for a two song encore of "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "Cocaine." On previous evenings, the main set concluded with "Cocaine" with "Dear Mr. Fantasy" being the only encore number.

Joining EC and SW on stage are long-time Clapton band members Chris Stainton (keyboards), Steve Gadd (drums), Willie Weeks (bass), Sharon White (backing vocals) and Michelle John (backing vocals).

The band and crew now head off for a series of single night dates in Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Kanazawa and Nagoya before settling down in Tokyo on 2 December for a 5 night stand at the city’s famed venue, the Nippon Budokan.
