Eric Clapton Headlines Greenwich Town Party

“The Core” made it’s first US set list appearance since 1978. Watch the video! Plus, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi were special guests.

On Saturday, May 26, Eric Clapton & His Band headlined the 8th annual Greenwich Town Party, organized exclusively for the residents and business owners of the Connecticut town. Also on the bill at the day-long music festival were the Tedeschi Trucks Band (making their third Town Party appearance), the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Trout Steak Revival, an award-winning string band from Colorado.

EC’s band was Doyle Bramhall II, Nathan East, Chris Stainton, Walt Richmond, Sharon White, Sharlotte Gibson and newcomer Sonny Emory on drums.

Eric took the stage at 8:10pm and kicked things off with “Somebody’s Knockin'” from his most recent studio album, I Still Do. As the sun set on the hot humid day, he treated the crowd to the blues classics, “Key To The Highway” and “Hoochie Coochie Man” followed up by his only U.S. number one, “I Shot The Sheriff.” The set list followed the format of last year’s US concerts and the January gig in Paris.

Eric saved the fireworks for the second half of the show, with extended versions of “Got To Get Better In A Little While” and “The Core.” The significance of “The Core’s” appearance in the set list after an absence of forty years was largely lost on the suburban audience.

The main part of the gig wrapped up with “Little Queen of Spades” and “Cocaine.” For the encore, Eric invited Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi to join in on “Crossroads.” Susan shared vocals with Eric, while all four guitarists took extended solos to close out the night.

Next up for Eric and his band are July gigs in Cologne, Hamburg and London’s Hyde Park. He heads back to the east coast of the U.S. in October for two concerts at Madison Square Garden. Tickets available from ticketmaster.com
