Michelle John On The Voice UK

Michelle John, who has been one of Eric Clapton’s backing vocalists since 2004, is heading to the battle rounds on The Voice UK! Battle Rounds start late February on ITV.

Before her blind audition, Michelle told The Voice UK that she’s looking to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight singing her songs as a solo artist. Michelle brought down the house with her spin on “It’s A Man’s Man’s World.” All four judges were clearly impressed, but will.i.am was the one who pushed the button telling her,”Your voice grabbed me. Your voice reached out and pushed the button. I didn’t push the button, you pushed it. Your voice hijacked me.”

Michelle grew up in Peckham and her passion for singing began in church, which she would attend with her mum. As a teen, she was a member of the prestigious London Community Gospel Choir. As professional vocalist, Michelle has worked with Annie Lennox, Will Young, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, Lulu, Michael McDonald, Nick Carter, Mariah Carey, David Gilmour, Carole King and the late George Michael and Whitney Houston, just to name a few. Since 2004, she’s has been an integral part of Eric Clapton’s touring and recording band.

Michelle is also a vocal coach, working with Razorlight , Girl’s Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Mis-Teeq, Bryan McFadden, Westlife, and Rita Ora.

Two years ago, Michelle released “Little Me,” her first EP of self-penned songs and released a Gospel single with Karl Nova entitled “Shining On.” Besides taking part in this season of The Voice UK, she’s busy working on a new album and prepping for a series of late March dates with Eric Clapton in New York and Los Angeles.
