Teenage Cancer Trust: Knopfler Sidelined By Accident, Clapton Still To Perform

Mark Knopfler will not be participating in this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust Benefit concerts at the Royal Albert Hall due to injuries suffered in his recent motorbike accident. Eric Clapton will perform on 25 March 2003 as previously announced. He’ll be backed by Nigel Kennedy & Friends.

Offical statement regarding Mark Knopfler’s accident issued by marknopfler.com:

At around lunch time on Monday 17th March, Mark Knopfler was involved in a collision in Belgravia, London whilst on his way to start rehearsals for his upcoming tour. He has six broken ribs and a broken collarbone, after being knocked from his motorbike by a car, and is now recuperating. Unfortunately this means he will not be able to perform at the Albert Hall on the 25th of March in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust with Eric Clapton. However, the show will still be going ahead with Eric Clapton and Nigel Kennedy and Friends performing "The Jam Sessions". Any get well cards for Mark should be sent to care of Mercury Records, 136 – 144 New Kings Road, London, SW6 4FX.
