Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records who would go on to sign Cream, heard Eric Clapton play for the first time. His reaction has become part of music business lore: with his back to the stage, Ahmet thought he was hearing Wilson Pickett's guitarist who he knew had remained in America, and when he turned around saw a young English kid.
